Dave Harbaugh's
"Hobnobbing with Harbaugh" comics appeared in Popular Electronics
magazine in the 1960s. They were always good for a chuckle or two. An old adage
says something to the effect of, "Many a true word is spoken in jest," and such
is the case with these. The adage suggests that what is said jokingly often
contains an element of truth, either because humor allows people to express
uncomfortable realities under the guise of playfulness or because it reveals
subconscious thoughts and observations. You need to be able to laugh at yourself
to appreciate it. Some sourpusses get offended. Electronics enthusiasts and
their wives were the subject of many comics in the era - until at some point the
hyper-sensitive weenies amongst us (a very small minority with disproportionate
influence) started whining about their tender little feelings getting hurt. Now,
here we are with perpetually offended crybabies all around us, and people
needing to check their "allowed word" lexicon before speaking. To Hades with
them I say. BTW, I once again
took the liberty of colorizing the comics (although the green was in the original comics).
I particularly like the little green man comic.
Hobnobbing with Harbaugh - Upcoming Events?
by Dave Harbaugh
"That's the horizontal hold-I said the off switch!"
"Dahdidahdit, dididah, dahdidahdit, dahdidah, dahdahdah, dahdahdah."
"Get off our laser frequencies!"
"It's from P.E.-you've won another of their nutty contests."
These Technically-Themed Comics Appeared in Vintage Electronics Magazines. I
personally scanned and posted every one from copies I own (and even colorized some).
272 pages as of 12/16/2025.
