Sam Benzacar, of
Anatech Electronics, an RF and microwave filter company, has published his June
2026 Newsletter that, along with timely news items, features his short op-ed
titled "Millimeter-wave
5G: Physics Didn't Get the Memo." In it, Sam discusses how the wireless
industry's present-day talk regarding millimeter-wave 5G operating above 24 GHz
sounds a lot like the big plans it had for ubiquitous gigabit connectivity with
micro base stations located on every street corner that would assure continuous
coverage. It never materialized. The physics issues with above-24-Ghz path loss,
shadowing, handset (i.e., phone) construction, etc., will greatly affect the
service's usefulness. New items include SpaceX telling the FCC to scrap its

San Francisco Circuits, a leading
printed circuit board fabrication and assembly supplier serving commercial and
defense markets, describes how
Military-grade printed circuit boards (PCBs) are designed for environments
where failure is not an option. Standards like MIL-PRF-31032, MIL-PRF-55110, and
MIL-PRF-50884 define stringent requirements for materials, fabrication, testing,
and traceability, ensuring boards perform reliably in extreme conditions. These
specifications guide engineers and manufacturers in creating PCBs that withstand
temperature extremes, vibration, shock, and humidity far beyond commercial
standards. MIL-PRF-31032 serves as the modern umbrella specification, covering
rigid, flexible...

Werbel's new
WMC-0.5-2-6dB-S,
6 dB directional coupler provides precision attenuation where it matters most.
It covers 500 MHz to 2 GHz with broadband flat coupling response, high directivity,
and excellent return loss performance. The device covers the upper portion of the
UHF band as well as L band in a single unit measuring just 3.60 x 0.60 x 0.38 inches.
Minimized reflections increase accuracy of the measurement. Mainline insertion loss
of 1.2 dB (typical) includes coupling factor. The 6 dB coupling ratio gives an approximate
75/25% splitting ratio and may be used as such to distribute signals unequally where
required, often to make up for asymmetrical losses elsewhere in a system...
Sam Benzacar, of Anatech Electronics, an RF
and microwave filter company, has published his May 2026 Newsletter that, along
with timely news items, features his short op-ed titled "The Math of LEO No
Longer Adds Up." Sam runs the numbers on Low-Earth-Orbit satellites, and assesses
future plans. "SpaceX now operates more than 10,000 Starlink satellites, roughly
two-thirds of everything in orbit. The next-largest operator, OneWeb, has fewer
than 700." They roam the nighttime sky, with small dots of light tracking across
our already light-polluted skies. The ITU coordination process now confronts filings
for more than a million LEO spacecraft, with half a million projected to be in orbit
by 2040. Now that Internet coverage and even Direct-to-Device (D2D) networks...

Flying Probe
Testing (FPT) has long been a reliable method for validating PCB designs, particularly
for prototypes and low volume production. Unlike traditional in circuit testing
(ICT), which relies on custom built fixtures, flying probe systems use movable probes
to test electrical connections directly, eliminating the need for dedicated hardware.
Flying probe testing uses multiple programmable probes to contact pads...
