Promoting STEM Through Volunteerism and Contests

IEEE senior member Michael R. Andrews originated the STEM Competition (science, technology, engineering, and math) for middle school students in order to promote those disciplines at a time when planning for high school and career paths really gets started. In this article, he recommends a show-and-tell type presentation to appeal to the shock and awe motivational factor of seeing cool concepts demonstrated and explained in terms understandable by students.
