Promoting STEM Through Volunteerism and Contests
|
IEEE
senior member Michael R. Andrews originated the
STEM Competition (science, technology, engineering, and math) for
middle school students in order to promote those disciplines at a time when planning
for high school and career paths really gets started. In this article, he recommends
a show-and-tell type presentation to appeal to the shock and awe motivational factor
of seeing cool concepts demonstrated and explained in terms understandable by students.
