This Is a Serious Set of Speakers

Think your Yamaha or Bose speakers put out the power? Well, Wyle Laboratories has a 165 dB speaker, the WAS3000, that will melt you ear wax - literally. For comparison, a food blender is about 9 dB. A 747 jet spooled up for takeoff is 130 dB. The Space Shuttle generates 150 dB. The threshold of pain for most people is around 125 dB. 150 dB can stop your heart. This technology is being explored to use in Active Noise Cancellation for around airports, where these speakers would generate sound 180° out-of-phase with aircraft noise to help dampen the level in surrounding areas.
