Hittite HMC794LP3EChelmsford, MA, 02/16/2010 – Hittite Microwave Corporation, the world class supplier of complete MMIC based solutions for performance driven RF and microwave transceivers is introducing a new low-noise, programmable frequency divider within a small 3 x 3 mm, leadless SMT, quad flatpack which is designed to accommodate power sensitive applications with uncompromising noise performance.

Hittite HMC794LP3E block diagramThe HMC794LP3E frequency divider provides four, hardware selectable, integer divider settings for input signals up to 2 GHz: divide-by-1-to-4. Phase noise performance levels (with fIN = 2 GHz) is typically below -160 dBc/Hz @ 100 kHz offset; tapering out to a residual noise floor below -166 dBc/Hz @ 10 MHz. The SiGe BiCMOS structures provide consistent output power regardless of divider setting, signal frequency, temperature, and supply voltage. The device is powered from a 5V supply, and incorporates a power down feature, good input-output isolation, external output power adjustment and 50% output duty cycle.

HMC794LP3E is ideal for applications in which phase noise performance is the critical parameter, and/or require a selectable divide ratio, such as clock and LO signal generation for instrumentation, software defined radios, and multi-band synthesizers. Other interesting applications include fast switching “ping-pong” between two signal sources via complementary “chip enable” controls on two dividers for complete source isolation at the divided output frequencies.

Samples and evaluation PC boards for all SMT packaged products are available from stock and can be ordered via the company’s e-commerce site or via direct purchase order. Released data sheets are available on-line at www.hittite.com.

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
