consultant/contractor rates - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts.

There seem to be many more consulting/contract oppportunities these days. I am looking for the rate that a consultant would charge per hour and the rate a contractor would charge as well.
The only site I cam across with typical rates was a navy site with IT work.
http://www.navy-itss.com/ITSS/Rates

Is there somewhere similar for hardware engineering types (in the US)?

Jake,
A recent article on IEEE rates independant consulting between $100 and $125 on average in the industry. That's if you are on your own.
Often times if you are using a staffing agent he may charge $150 plus and he will take his cut for brokering the job.

If you know how much you would be making on that as full time employee with benefits a good rule of thumb is to devide your yearly salary by 1000 to get your hourly rate.
