desire your big help - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts.

Yeah - I thought the same about Amazon, but let's not be unkind.

"Antenna Theory and Design" is not something you can casually absorb in a few hours from an e-book, and then credibly launch into a "proposal". Some folk eg. me) have spent a large fraction of their lives untangling antenna theory, and can only get a reasonable grip on a practical subset of it.

From the context of your question, my guess is that you need a general appreciation of the antenna types, and the frequency ranges they best suit. You want to know the constraints of physical size, and cost, and durability. A proposal for a GPS device for a vehicle is going to be very different to one for a newsfeed dish on a field, or a telemetry antenna suited for installation on a satellite. You can gain much of this from the net for free using the generous information on Ham radio enthusiast pages.

Use Google Search for "ARRL". It will lead you into a mess of links where you are bound to get lots of relavent stuff. Try also Wikipedia. Good hunting.

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while typing up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
