Some clarification from the Netherlands. What the ABC article did not mention is, that the film 'Submissions' -made by the assasinated Theo van Gogh- was made after a book by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Miss Hirsi Ali is from Somalia and fled to the Netherlands to escape from a forced marriage. Here she studied and became member of parliament. She -as former muslim- is most outspoken about the suppression of womans rights by muslims and has written several books about it.

On the body of van Gogh was a letter left behind, actualy it was pinned on it with a knive. It contained a death threat to Hirsi Ali, Since that day she is in hiding, government security officials consider it too dangerous for het to continue het work as member of parliament. In a discussion on television after the Uden school fire- a muslim woman urged the prime minister (Balkenende) 'to gag and silence' Hirsi Ali.
Another MP, Geert Wilders, also received death threats by muslims -an imam said it openly on television- and he also had to postpone his political work.

A professor of law at the Leiden University, Afshin Ellian, said in a newspaper interview that he is abhorred by the fact that the same oppression from fundamentalistic muslims for which he had to flee Iran, is now clearly present in the Netherlands.

The Netherlands is surely a liberal country, indeed pot-smoking and prostitution are allowed, but in my opinion it is mostly expressed in its open attitude towards homosexualism, they can 'come out' without fear for jobs and personal safety, they can even marry. Television personalities, members of parliament and even government ministers are know to be girly-man. This homo-freedom is severely threatened by muslims. An imam in a well known mosque has advised his flock to 'throw homo's from a high building, head first'.

A recent study found that 66% of the juvenile rape is committed by muslim boys, their victims are 75% white girls. As muslims are about 5% of the total population, muslim boys are overexpressed by a factor of 12 to 13 with respect to this crime. It was estabished that these boys consider women inferior, especially non-muslim woman. They are told by parents and imams that all women without a scarve are whores.

There is a growing trend of muslim neighbourhoods is the larger cities. Several cases are known now of Dutch families who were forced by violence and harrasment to leave their houses in such neighbourhoods. In a recent case the authoroties (in this case the mayor of Amsterdam) openly admitted that they could not prevent this.

This is all happening in a country that for ages was known for its capability to absorb foreigners, from French protestants in the 17th century, jews from Germany in the 1930ties up to Vietnamese refugies in the 1970ties. All groups integrated in the Dutch economy, cultural life and schools and universities. In general they learned the language well.

All this seems to be impossible for muslims: frequent drop out from schools and very low language abilities excludes them from society. It is common for third generation immigrants (that is children of children of an immigrant), that are born here and went to school (basic education is free and mandatory up to 16 in the Netherlands) to speak only haltingly Dutch and have inferior reading and writing capabilities. The only point where they stand out is in the crime figures.

I found all these facts hard to believe, and for long considered if right wing lies. But I can no longer deny it. Fact is that 'liberated' muslims like Hirsi Ali and Ellian are warning us: Ellian said it like this "don't let this country become like the Iran that I fled"
