RF can apertures - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts.

I would like to calculate the maximum aperture size in a RF can to prevent RF energy @2.4GHz radiating through the can.
The can material is brass nickle plate fixed to a FR4 pcb.
I currently have apertures of 0.3mm X 2.5mm spaced along the bottom wall edges to thermally relieve the pcb contacts of the can.
Is this OK?
I have been told aperture dimensions should not exceed 0.6mm square before RF @2.4GHz sees the "gap" - in which case my existing can would fail to block the RF.
Can anyone please advise?
