Sam Benzacar of
Anatech Electronics, an RF and microwave filter company, has published his May
2023 newsletter that features his short op−ed entitled "Z-Axis
Positioning Finally Arrives," which discusses the FCC's "Wireless E911
Location Accuracy Requirements" mandate for providing altitude information from
the point an emergency assistance call is placed. It says in part, "...requires
nationwide wireless providers to deploy z-axis technology nationwide by April 3,
2025." It is not a trivial requirement since cell tower triangulation and even
embedded GPS sensors cannot provide altitude (z-axis) position precisely enough
to pinpoint floor-level location. The FCC wants to know what floor of a building
from which the call originates. Sam mentions NextNav's Pinnacle system that uses
a precision barometric pressure sensor in the phone, tablet, computer, etc., to
provide the altitude information. After reviewing available info on Pinnacle, I
don't see how a pressure sensor can provide floor-level height without a very
nearby reference pressure sensor at some fixed, known height to compare
readings. Ambient barometric pressure is constantly changing, so a referenceless
reading is practically useless. Pilots always calibrate their altimeters
(barometers calibrated to read out in units of height) at a point on the airport
where the altitude is know...

Teledyne e2v HiRel, a leading provider of
high-reliability semiconductor solutions, is proud to announce the release of a
new space COTS (Commercial-Off-The-Shelf) phase locked loop (PLL) designed to deliver
exceptional performance and reliability in space applications. The
TDPL97240 is packaged in a small, 7x7 mm, non-hermetic, epoxy sealed, ceramic
quad, no-leads, (QFN) flat package that offers 75% board size reduction vs. the
standard space grade ceramic part. It is radiation tolerant to 100 krad (Si)
total ionizing dose (TID) and built on silicon-on-sapphire (SOS) technology. This
gives the PLL natural radiation tolerance and immunity to single-event latch-up
(SEL) effects. It also has a lock frequency range of 50 MHz-5 GHz, dual
modulus prescaler (5/6 & 10/11) for greater frequency flexibility and capability
of either serial interface or direct pin programming. "We are thrilled to offer
our customers a cost-effective solution that delivers the high-reliability and high-performance
needed for space applications...
Axiom Test Equipment, Inc., an electronic
test equipment rental and sales company has published a new blog post entitled "How to Test Cables &
Antennas Together in 2023" that covers how testing antennas and cables as an
integrated assembly can reveal a great deal about how they will work together within
their system. A variety of measurements can help characterize antennas with cables
and some of the latest test tools can deliver those measurements when and where
needed. Diverse types of tests, such as frequency domain reflectometry (FDR) or
time domain reflectometry (TDR) measurements, can confirm continuous impedance in
a signal path formed by antennas and cables. These measurements check for reflections
coming along the signal path, using continuous broadband frequency signals in FDR
and pulsed signals in TDR. Test units capable of FDR and TDR measurements can isolate
problems along the antenna/cable signal path, such as loose or worn connectors.
Such measurements can provide information about the distance to a fault...
Empower RF announces delivery of the model
2241, a
GaN
Solid State PA pulse emitter designed for new Radar applications where portability
and extended range are key requirements. Across the operating band of 9 to 10 GHz,
the model 2241 provides over 1000 W peak power in a compact 3U chassis. Flexible
waveform handling is a key feature. The 2241 is capable of long pulses, high duty
cycles, and a derated long pulse mode. The unit is controlled through the front
panel touch screen, M2M SCPI, and peer/Lan connected PC and web browser with no
software to install. The 2241 is suitable for pulse applications in the X-band frequency.
This amplifier utilizes high power GaN on SiC devices that provide wide frequency
response, high gain, high peak power capability, and low distortions. Exceptional
performance, long-term reliability and high efficiency are achieved...

Innovative Power Products (IPP), with more
than 30 years of experience designing & manufacturing RF & microwave passive
components, introduces a line of
RF Feedback
Resistors for Solid-State Amplifiers. IPP's line of Feedback Resistors are designed
to support wideband RF/Microwave solid-state transistor power amplifiers, which
require resistive feedback. Using negative resistive feedback is a simple way to
improve transistor amplifier stability and frequency gain sloping. These feedback
resistors are flange mounted and designed to fit directly over the RF/microwave
transistor using the same mounting holes as the transistor. This mounting configuration
utilizes normally unused space above the transistor without taking up valuable PCB
area adjacent to the transistor. This also decreases parasitic inductance associated
with resistor leads...

Sam Benzacar of Anatech Electronics, an
RF and microwave filter company, has published his April 2023 newsletter that features
his short op−ed entitled "Havana Syndrome:
Case Closed," which discusses where the U.S. government recently declared their
investigation into the mysterious neurological issues some foreign embassy staff
had been reporting showed that use of a microwave emitter to induce maladies was
"very unlikely." Keep in mind that conclusion was brought to you by the same type
government jackbooted thugs who brought you "safe and effective" vaccines. Sam,
as do I, believes just because government investigators have declared the "conspiracy
theories" to be unfounded, it does not remove the possibility of radiation poisoning
given the history of Communist regimes in not so long ago events. Russia and other
countries were caught zapping personnel with microwaves on multiple occasions. Sam
wrote about the Havana Syndrome back in 2019...
