Videos for Engineers - Solar Death Ray: Power of 5000 Suns! Videos
for Engineers
The much-anticipated
iPhone 5 was on sale in stores beginning last Friday, September 21, 2012. As usual, there were
long lines of people camping out for multiple days in order to be the first ones to have the phone.
Lots of jokes are made about the Apple product obsessive compulsive types, and plenty of videos are
available to give credence to those jokes. I have embedded three iPhone teardown videos - two performed
in the traditional manner (ifixit.com and DirectFix.com) using technician tools, and the third performed
using a .50-caliber bullet from a Barretta rifle (Tech Assassin). Prior to providing air circulation
to the innards, sharpshooter Richard Ryan asks, "Siri, have you seen what a .50 cal does to an iPhone?"
According to iPhone 5 teardowns that have already been done, RF Cafe advertiser Skyworks Solutions
has two power amplifier modules (PAMs) inside. With 5 million iPhone 5 phones sold in the
first three days, that's 10 million units for Skyworks! Per the ifixit.com website teardown, these are
the main RFICs in the iPhone 5:
• Skyworks 77352-15 GSM/GPRS/EDGE power amplifier module
•
SWUA 147 228 RF antenna switch module
• Triquint 666083-1229 WCDMA / HSUPA power amplifier /
RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling
2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed
formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit
design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at
the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps
while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got
Mail" when a new message arrived...
