The number of foreign nationals enrolling in U.S. engineering colleges is increasing significantly - by 18.6% at the freshman level and by 14.7% at the graduate level from 2000 to 2001 - according to the Engineering Workforce Commission. Total enrollment is up 5% from 2000 to 2001, which means U.S. citizens continue to decline in percentage of engineering students. Overall female enrollment has dropped from 18.9% to 18.3% at the freshman level, but has increased at the master's level from 10.0% to 10.3%. Bioengineering, computer and general engineering enrollment is up, electrical engineering remained level, and chemical engineering enrollment has declined.
