Automatic Gain Control Amps Join Spectrum Microwave Line of High Performance Designs from API Technologies

March 16, 2012 Press Release
ORLANDO,
FL — March 16, 2012 — API Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:ATNY) (“API” or the “Company”), a provider of electronic
systems, subsystems, RF, and secure systems for defense, aerospace, and commercial applications, announced today a
new line of customizable automatic gain control (AGC) amplifiers from its Spectrum Microwave family of products.
They feature a ruggedized design, automatic output control and high RF input damage protection. “These
low-phase noise AGC amplifiers are ideally suited for receiver applications in rugged military environments and
high performance commercial applications. They allow the user to anticipate receiver power levels and
automatically adjust the output power to a more desirable level,” said Tracy Shaffer, Vice President, Spectrum
Microwave Product Group of API Technologies. They can be used in multiple applications from 50MHz to 2000MHz and
maintain a minimal output variation of +/- 2dB to control input power fluctuations. The AGC amplifiers
come in five frequency ranges (100-200MHz, 200-400MHz, 400-600MHz, 600-800MHz, and 800-1000MHz) and operate off a
+5 volt supply—drawing only 125mA from -40C to +50C. Two wide bandwidth versions (500-800MHz and 1000-2000MHz) are
also available. “With optional gain stages from 25dB to 40dB, this modular design is quite versatile and can be
used for multiple applications,” added Shaffer. Designed for rugged military environments, this new AGC
amplifier line can be customized with both an optional time delay adjustment feature, as well as a phase
modulation compression feature to accommodate for peak power variations. They are designed to minimize group delay
with group delay performance as low as +/- 1 ns, typical. To learn more about the API Technologies’

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling
2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed
formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit
design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at
the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps
while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got
Mail" when a new message arrived...
