IHS Acquires PCNAlert
Acquisition allows IHS to deliver end-to-end engineering
obsolescence management solution
ENGLEWOOD,
Colo. (August 27, 2007) – IHS Inc.
(NYSE: IHS), a global provider
of critical technical information, decision-support tools and related
services, announced today it has acquired the assets of PCNAlert from
SupplyEdge, Inc., of Pasadena, Calif., for $10 million in an all-cash
transaction. PCNAlert delivers leading component event management solutions,
including product change notifications (PCNs) and end-of-life (EOL)
notifications for the electronic components industry.
“The acquisition
of PCNAlert advances our strategy of expanding our proprietary database
of parts information and related decision-support tools,” said Jeffrey
R. Tarr, President and Chief Operating Officer, Engineering Segment
for IHS. “PCNAlert’s premier event management offerings will be integrated
with our growing electronic components business providing IHS a clear
differentiator in the marketplace with existing and new customers. The
acquisition will help accelerate our market penetration by leveraging
existing IHS sales channels globally and incorporating PCNAlert as an
add-on to our electronic components product line.”
Component
manufacturers, original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and electronic
manufacturing services (EMS) need to identify and solve potential part
obsolescence issues early in their design, procurement, production,
quality control, and service and repair processes. The integration of
PCNAlert into the IHS proprietary electronic components database uniquely
positions IHS to deliver an end-to-end engineering obsolescence management
solution. As a result, customers’ engineering process improvements can
have a direct positive impact on their key business initiatives in the
electronics industry, including risk mitigation, environmental regulation
compliance, accelerated time to market, product lifecycle management,
optimized strategic sourcing, and effective electronics inventory and
supply chain management.
Cliff Frescura, CEO of PCNAlert, said:
“The collective power of IHS expertise and its current Parts Solutions
offerings with PCNAlert enable customers to make component selection
and management decisions more rapidly and with greater confidence, which
is critically important in a highly competitive electronic component
market environment.”

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling
2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed
formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit
design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at
the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps
while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got
