Having been home to Melanie and me since May of 2008, I though it would be appropriate to search out and document industries in the Erie area. After all, the more people there are to share the tax burden, the less amount of tax I have to pay - theory anyway.
I have to admit to being surprised at the number of manufacturers that are still operational in Erie. To hear a lot of people talk, you would think all industry had turned out the lights decades ago. Maybe compared to the Erie heyday that is true. Having done a fair amount of driving around the area, I have noted the presence of buildings scattered around the city with signs out front for makers of plastic products, electronics components and assembly, metal forges, hardware of various sorts, tool makers, metal finishing, furnaces, hydraulic equipment, and many other cool things. It is heartening to see that, indeed, there is still some manufacturing left in the United States.
Now, if you own a company and are looking for a great place to relocate where the cost of living is as low as the crime rate (except maybe for the politicians), then I can and do heartily recommend Erie.
