My 1970s-era Radio Shack Microanta model 22-208 FET-VOM with a mirrored scale still does regular duty on my electronics workbench - particularly when the DMM happens to have been left somewhere else. One of the first things a person is taught about using analog meters is to always select a range that put the needle toward the upper end of the scale.
