RESEARCH EXPERIENCE:

Graduate Research Assistant (08/2003 – Present):
Department of Electrical Engineering, University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC.

Ø   Designed, developed and tested a miniaturized Hilbert PIFA (planar inverted-F antenna) for Dual Band (900 and 1900 MHz) mobile wireless applications

Ø    Designed, developed and tested a new class of miniature embedded inverted-F antennas (IFAs) for 2.4 GHz WLAN (wireless local area network) applications

Ø    Developed a new method to predict the resonance frequency of Hilbert IFAs without full-wave electromagnetic simulation

Ø    Designed, developed, fabricated and tested a thin (6 mm from ground) wide-band (1.7 – 2.5 GHz), directional dipole antenna (Avg. gain 7 dBi) on electromagnetic bandgap structures (EBGs)

Ø    Designed, fabricated and tested a miniature subcutaneously implanted antenna for GPS application. Tested in open field with SIRF Evaluation Kit III

Ø    Designed and tested wideband smaller planar unit-cell EBG structures and their applications to design thin (0.02l from the ground) dipole at 1.8 GHz.

Ø    Developed a two element MIMO diversity antenna system for WLAN application.

Ø    Designed, fabricated and tested several lumped-element and planar wideband (1.7 – 2.5 GHz) microstrip baluns.

Ø    Designed, fabricated and tested band pass filters using coupled line and hairpin line.

Ø    Low power exemption rationale for wireless transmitter at distances of 40 mm or greater from the user

Teaching Assistant (01/2005 - 05/2005 and 01/2006-05/2006):

Department of Electrical Engineering, University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC.

Ø    Prepared Lecture notes, delivered several lectures and graded papers.
