Principle Design Engineer

The Principle Design Engineer will be an integral member of the Itron R&D team, working with other members of product development and test engineers to define, architect, and write firmware for battery powered ZigBee products within Itron's OpenWay Advanced Metering Initiative (AMI) solution. This role is located in the facility in Waseca, MN.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience architecting and writing firmware for code constrained applications (executables less than 128k) and has delivered a minimum of two products from concept to high volume production. Experience with battery powered applications and ZigBee are a plus. The candidate chosen will contribute to meeting Itron's revenue goals through timely delivery of high-quality products in the Itron AMI solution.

Duties:

  • Participate in and sometimes lead firmware/product requirements discussions.
  • Contribute to or lead in the creation of firmware design specifications, interface specifications, test specifications, and technical reports.
  • Architecting, writing, and validating firmware to meet the required specifications.
  • Participate in product design reviews, code reviews, walkthroughs, and product lifecycle inspections.
  • As part of firmware validation, support integration, interoperability and system testing and characterization.
  • Provide firmware support to design, manufacturing, test, and systems engineering.
  • Mentor less senior individuals in sound engineering practice.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Sr. Principal Design Engineer

The Senior Principal Design Engineer will be an integral member of the Itron R&D team, working with other members of product development and test engineers to define, architect, and design analog, RF, and digital circuits for battery powered AMR products. This role is located in Waseca, MN.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience designing battery powered analog and RF circuits that employ microcontrollers and other integrated circuits (e.g. RF transceivers). The candidate should have a thorough understanding of RF design and experience in the 900 MHz region.

Duties:

  • Architect the electronic circuits for the AMR module and set technical direction.
  • Work with equipment (Spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, impedance analyzers, RF generators, oscilloscopes, etc.) to design, develop, test, and trouble shoot product.
  • Performing simulations and developing models to help validate the design.
  • Participate in and lead design requirements discussions.
  • Contribute to or lead in the creation of design specifications, interface specifications, test specifications, and technical reports.

Sr. Product Manager

As a Sr. Product Manager you are responsible for the overall business health of the product(s) in your control. Includes forecasting market potential, identifying market requirements and developing business plans that ensure the products are sound in terms of profitability and customer satisfaction. This role is located at the corporate headquarters in Liberty Lake, WA.

Duties:

  • Manage the availability of applications on all Non AMR / AMI applications.
  • Manage product development, test compatibility of all 3rd party ZigBee devices including:
    • ZigBee Based- Smart thermostats.
    • DCU (Comverge and/or other third parties).
    • In- home displays.

Manufacturing Engineer

The Manufacturing Engineer will perform a variety of tasks related to the manufacturing of electronic printed circuit boards, from the maintenance, programming, and specifying automated assembly equipment. A team-environment is promoted to solve problems affecting the manufacture of our boards. This role is located at the facility in Oconee, SC.

Duties:

  • Troubleshoot and maintain production equipment in the event of failure.
  • Continuous improvement of quality, cycle time, and reliability of production equipment through hardware and/or software modifications.
  • Design, implementation, and documentation of new production process equipment as needed.

Qualifications:

  • SMT process knowledge.
  • Knowledge of reflow, wave and hand soldering technologies.

  • Universal Placement Equipment Experience a plus.

Design Engineer

Contributing in the electronics and firmware disciplines, the successful employee will participate and take a responsible position in the development of high volume, cost-competitive, and space optimized circuit boards and their interfaces. This includes selection of design approach, discrete component evaluation and selection, schematic development, and generation of control firmware. An understanding of optimization for reliability and cost for high volume production will be a key component of good performance.

Qualifications:

  • BSEE or BS Electronics Engineering Technology required.

Sr. RF Systems Engineer

This role is located in at the headquarters in Liberty Lake, WA.

The ideal candidate has experience working as a Systems Engineer, System Architect, or Design Engineer on RF systems, and understands RF design issues and limitations from a systems perspective. The candidate can use that knowledge of RF to help guide the definition and development of system-level specifications and designs.

Preference will be given to candidates experienced working with two-way wireless networking systems utilizing IEEE 802.15 or 802.11 standards. We are especially seeking candidates that can demonstrate knowledge of the IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee standards and ZigBee protocol stack functionality, and who have experience working with ZigBee chipsets from Ember, Freescale, or TI/Chipcon.

Duties:

 The candidate chosen will contribute to meeting Itron's revenue goals through timely delivery of high-quality products in the Itron AMI solution.

  • Participate and sometimes lead in the development and execution of system-level requirements, architecture, designs, tests, implementation and analysis of Itron ZigBee based AMI products, as well as the overall Itron AMI solution.

  • Experience with wireless standards, wireless protocols and interfaces such as 802.15.4 / ZigBee (preferred), Bluetooth, WiFi, etc. Ability to quickly analyze and adapt to changing wireless standards. Prior knowledge of the 802.15.4 and ZigBee standards and ZigBee protocol stack functionality, and experience working with ZigBee chipsets would be very helpful.
  • Working knowledge of RF test tools (protocol and signal analyzers, simulators, etc.) and setups to test performance, interference, etc. Experience performing analysis in the field and in RF screen rooms and anechoic chambers helpful.
  • Experience with data and network security implementation such as encryption engines, network security and link keys, security trust centers, etc.
  • Experience coding and troubleshooting real-time embedded firmware for microcontrollers systems. Experience programming in any of the following: C, C++, C#, scripting languages such as Perl or Python, and SOAP.
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new test equipment or tools and the ability to create software test tools and tools from ZigBee development kits.

RF Design Engineer

Itron Inc. currently has a job opening for an RF Design Engineer in its West Union, SC. facility. The primary responsibilities for this position are to assist in the design and testing of high-volume, low-cost RF communication circuits that operate in the unlicensed 900MHz frequency band. People who like challenges and are motivated to drive this wireless communications technology in a cooperative team environment are encouraged to apply.

Major Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Involved in RF circuit design from concept to production for low cost wireless communications product-line, including RF filters and matching, synthesizers, VCOs, power amplifiers and integrated circuit transceivers.

Senior Design Assurance Engineer

Sr. Field Engineer

Itron is looking for a Sr. Field Engineer for a project on the East Coast. This role provides highly visible customer support through the performance of on-site installation, as well as overseeing any necessary diagnoses, troubleshooting, service, and repair of complex equipment and systems. Checks out and approves operational quality of system equipment. Instructs customers in the operation and maintenance of the system. Serves as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects. Interprets customers' needs and clarifies if the responsibility for problem resolution falls to sales personnel, customer support reps, or engineers. This job may include any aspect of field support, and is not limited to system hardware and software, PCs, and networking/wireless networking.
