 After noticing many times that all the RF Cafe pages would load significantly more quickly in either Netscape Navigator or Mozilla's Firefox browsers than in Internet Explorer, I began an extensive search for an reason why. According to widespread reports, IE 7 has been infamously slow - and not just for RF Cafe - since its release.I know RF Cafe has a lot of content on its pages, and I could understand the slowness if all browsers were equally slow, but there had to be something fundamental at the root of the problem. There was. It turns out in my case that an Add-on from Norton was the culprit. Its name is thus: Norton Confidential Browser Helper Object I discovered which add-in was the source by simple process of elimination. First, I disabled all Add-ons, and then re-enabled them one at a time until a significant slow-down occurred. The offending file actually belongs to a version of Norton's firewall software that I uninstalled a couple months ago, but it left a vestige of itself there as an Add-on. Even if you are not running Norton software, there might be something else slowing your copy down. Here is a brief tutorial on how to access the Add-on list in Internet Explorer 7. 
Access the Add-ons window by clicking on the Internet Explorer "Tools" menu. Then, select the "Manage Add-ons" item and click on "Enable or Disable Add-ons..." 
Make sure the "Show" list is set on
"Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer." To test whether a particular Add-on is a problem, select it and then check off the "Disable" button in the "Settings" area. A notice will appear telling you to shut IE and the re-open. Load RFCafe.com and see it the load speed is similar to that with Netscape or Firefox. Set the Add-on back to "Enable" if it did not help, and try another Add-on. |
