AMCrf In-Store Products and Applications Edition
February 2012 Issue

Our Semi-Custom Products:
“Almost Off the Shelf”

The products offered on AMCrf.com are either available from stock or in a few days after your order. However it's important to remember that the products you see on our site are popular models used in specific applications, frequencies, and configurations. However, they’re just examples of the products many of whose specifications we can quickly modify. That is, you should think of them as “almost off-the-shelf “as we can turn them around quickly and in most cases without any NRE.

For example, key parameters of most filters can be modified very quickly, such as center frequency, bandwidth, rejection points, and connectors such as BNC, SMA, Type-N, TNC, SMC, etc. Even though our ceramic filters are designed for surface mounting, they can be placed in a connectorized enclosure and still retain their superb electrical characteristics very quickly.

Anatech Electronics filter
Need it weatherized? No problem

Of all the types of filters we manufacture, cavity bandpass filters are the most likely to be used outdoors or within closed areas that are not totally sealed from the ravages of the environment. This is typical when they’re used to remedy interference conditions that did not exist during installation or when modifications are made to accommodate new wireless networks, many times at the top of the tower. As we are almost continuously manufacturing cavity filters for wireless, satellite communications, and other systems that must be protected against hostile environments, specifying one of our standard products for outdoor applications will almost never significantly increase delivery time.

In addition, while products for defense applications can often require significant “hi-rel” testing, other MIL specs can be met by standard products with modifications that we can make quite quickly. This is because Anatech Electronics has been manufacturing filters and other products for defense applications for decades and our in-house capabilities make this possible.

Filters are not the only products that can be modified in many ways to become semi-custom models, and various specifications and physical conditions to power dividers, directional couplers, and other products can be made quickly as well.

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
