PureWave Networks Selects Azimuth Systems’ ACE™ MX for Testing of its Base Station
Innovative 4G Base Station Provider Added to Growing List of MIMO Communications Leaders Employing the Azimuth
MIMO Channel Emulator for Testing
ACTON, MA – September 14, 2009 – Azimuth Systems, Inc., a leading provider of wireless
broadband test equipment and channel emulators, today announced that PureWave Networks Inc., the developer of high
performance, compact outdoor Mobile WiMAX 802.16e base stations, has selected Azimuth’s ACE™ MX Universal
Frequency MIMO Channel Emulator for testing its 4G base stations. With the adoption of the ACE MX, PureWave
Networks joins the rapidly growing list of MIMO communications leaders using the ACE channel emulator to ensure
the delivery of high quality products, and significantly improve the costs and time associated with testing.
PureWave’s Quantum family 4G base stations utilize the company’s patented PureMax™ Smart Antenna technology to
deliver dramatically superior range and capacity. By combining industry-leading MIMO channel emulation
capabilities in a flexible and scalable solution, the ACE MX will enable PureWave Networks to conduct efficient,
automated and repeatable testing of its Quantum product line under a multitude of “real-world” RF conditions.
“In addition to advanced beamforming, PureWave Networks employs a number of powerful techniques to allow our
PureWave Quantum base stations to deliver the unmatched performance that they are known for,” said Dan Picker, CTO
of PureWave Networks. “The ease of use, superior RF fidelity, and calibration of units for beamforming testing
provided by the ACE MX make it an ideal selection for us. We are already running tests we weren’t previously able
to perform, and we are extremely pleased with results.”
A purpose-built, enhanced testing solution, the ACE MX channel emulator is architected to meet the demanding
needs of Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output (MIMO) and orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM)-based
systems. The ACE MX provides the advanced channel emulation features required for testing WiMAX, LTE and other
advanced wireless infrastructure equipment and devices, and includes all of the backwards-compatible channel
emulation features to test 2G/3G cellular products. The ACE MX also features dedicated bi-directional channel
modeling that can accurately emulate real world wireless over-the-air conditions in both the downlink and uplink
paths simultaneously, which is a requirement to test beamforming.
“We’re excited to partner with PureWave
Networks, a recognized leader in MIMO communications, to help them deliver reliable, carrier-grade products,” said
George Reed, vice president of marketing and product management at Azimuth Systems. “Channel emulation is rapidly
being recognized as the key to reliable conformance, performance and interoperability testing. As OFDM- and
MIMO-based systems such as WiMAX and LTE become more prevalent, Azimuth is increasingly being recognized as a
leader for testing wireless broadband technologies.”

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling
2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed
formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit
design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at
the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps
while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got
Mail" when a new message arrived...
