Azimuth Systems Expanded Leadership in Wireless Broadband Market in 2008
Leading Provider of Wireless Test Equipment and Channel Emulators Grows Customer Base, Channel Emulation Revenue
and Strengthens Product Offerings
ACTON, MA – January 13, 2009
– Azimuth Systems, Inc., a leading provider of wireless broadband test
equipment and channel emulators for Wi-Fi, WiMAX, LTE and 2G/3G cellular technologies, today announced several
major milestones that mark the company’s continued growth in the broadband wireless industry. In 2008, Azimuth
increased its channel emulator revenue year-over-year by more than 30%, increased its customer base by more than
25%, including many new international customers, and formed several partnerships with companies and organizations
throughout the broadband wireless industry.
To accommodate its continued growth and expansion, Azimuth
re-located its headquarters near Boston, Massachusetts, expanded its international presence and announced several
notable additions to its impressive customer base in 2008. Azimuth’s customer list currently features 155 of the
world’s foremost wireless semiconductor, infrastructure and mobile equipment vendors, and service provider
companies – including AT4 wireless, Atheros, Belkin, Broadcom, Cisco, Marvell, Motorola, POSDATA, Samsung, Symbian
“Over the course of our history, Azimuth has excelled at adapting to meet the needs of
advanced technology testing for the delivery of high-speed wireless voice, data and video services,” said Jim
Iuliano, CEO of Azimuth Systems. “As we welcome 2009, we hope to build upon this strength and continue to provide
our customers with reliable test equipment and channel emulators designed to meet the needs of the latest
generation of wireless, carrier-grade networks and solutions for Wi-Fi, WiMAX, LTE and 2G/3G cellular
Following 2007’s extremely successful expansion of the ACE™ (Azimuth Channel Emulator) product family into the
WiMAX market, Azimuth built upon the product line’s success by releasing three new ACE models optimized for Wi-Fi,
2x2 MIMO WiMAX performance and uni-directional conformance testing. The company also announced the expansion of
the product line to address the needs of emerging wireless broadband technologies, such as LTE and other 4G
technologies, making the ACE platform the first and only channel emulator specifically built to meet the complex
test requirements of systems including MIMO and beam-forming capabilities. Furthermore, Azimuth added the
requisite frequencies, channel models and tools to support these emerging technologies as well as provided the
necessary features to enable testing and backwards compatibility with 2G and 3G mobile technologies.
In addition to expanding its role in the broadband wireless industry, 2008 also marked continued success for
Azimuth’s leadership in the Wi-Fi space. Notable accomplishments include Belkin selecting the ACE channel
emulator and ADEPT-n MIMO test platform to automate the testing of its N and N1 wireless networking product
lines. Azimuth also continued work with the Wi-Fi Alliance®, resulting in the success of Azimuth’s 802.11n Wi-Fi
Certification Test Suite, which enables industry-leading vendors like Marvell® and Ralink to significantly reduce
the time and costs of pre-certification testing.
Worldwide, Azimuth began operations in India, China and
Hong Kong to support distribution in India, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and China. In Europe, Azimuth added Creanord, a
premier solutions provider for carriers and service providers throughout Northern Europe, as its distributor for
Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, the Baltics (Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania) and Russia.
actively worked with industry standards groups like the Wi-Fi Alliance, WiMAX Forum, 3GPP (3rd Generation
Partnership Project) and the International Wireless Industry Consortium™ (IWPC), providing technical contributions
and presentations to drive important standards improvements and to share its knowledge and experience. In
addition, Azimuth formed partnerships with other leading test equipment companies to produce enhanced test
solutions which delivered more value to their common customers. For example, Azimuth’s partnership with Agilent,
combining Agilent’s 8960 Wireless Communications Test Set with the award-winning Azimuth FMC Performance Test
Suite, created the industry’s first complete fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) test solution.
Azimuth continued to strengthen its leadership team with the appointment of industry-veteran George Reed as vice
president of marketing and product management. Reed brings over 24 years of cellular and wireless experience to
Azimuth and will help lead the company’s market share growth, expansion into new wireless markets and strategic
Azimuth continued to be recognized in the wireless arena by winning several industry awards acknowledging
the company’s innovation in its approach to broadband wireless testing. The ACE 400WB MIMO Channel Emulator
received the MITX Technology Customer Impact Award in recognition of a technology product that has made a
significant impact on customer ability to effectively develop and deliver innovative technology, and the Azimuth
FMC Performance Test was awarded the UMA Innovation Award for best test solution.
Azimuth starts 2009 with
the introduction of its universal-frequency ACE MX, addressing channel emulation needs across 2G/3G cellular
markets, as well as continuing to provide the advanced channel emulation features required for WiMAX, LTE and
other 4G technologies. With its continued market leadership in MIMO-based channel emulation solutions, and its
broad portfolio of wireless test products and solutions, Azimuth is confident it will sustain growth and
profitability in 2009.
