RFMD®Achieves Point-To-Point Radio Shipment Milestone

Company Expects Continued Growth In Microwave Radio Applications

NEW YORK, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- RF Micro Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq: RFMD), a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance semiconductor components, announced at its fourth annual Analyst Day today that RFMD(R) has shipped its 1,000,000th integrated circuit (IC) for high performance microwave point-to-point (PTP) radio applications. RFMD's microwave PTP radios are used in multiple applications, including broadband communications and cellular backhaul networks.

According to John Pelose, general manager of RFMD's Wireless Infrastructure business unit, "The shipment of our 1,000,000th integrated circuit for point-to-point applications underscores the breadth of our PTP portfolio and the increasing capabilities of RFMD's Wireless Infrastructure business unit. RFMD now offers a broad portfolio of high frequency amplifiers and radio chipsets operating up to 26 GHz. Our expanded capabilities in microwave radio applications are fostering new growth opportunities for RFMD, not only in PTP radios, but also in Aerospace & Defense."

RFMD extended its microwave IC product portfolio with the acquisition of Filtronic Compound Semiconductors Ltd In February, 2008, and continues to strengthen its PTP product portfolio today. RFMD currently offers the industry's broadest portfolio of RF components for microwave PTP radio applications, including radio chipsets, monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) amplifiers, discrete transistors, high-power high-frequency switches and signal sources (voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and phase lock loop (PLL) modules).

The demand for microwave PTP radios in cellular backhaul applications continues to grow, as cellular infrastructure networks support global increases in minutes-of-use (MOU) for voice and data services, such as mobile video. In cellular backhaul networks, PTP radios are used to wirelessly connect cellular base stations to a mobile operator's core network, providing an alternative to the more costly and throughput-limited leased line transport approach. Moreover, PTP radios continue to migrate to higher carrier frequencies in order to support increased data rates in backhaul applications. In addition to cellular infrastructure, new markets for PTP radios include trunking, enterprise networks, broadcast networks and last mile access.
