Applied Wave Research (AWR) - Press Release 10-27-2008

AWR(R)and UMS Announce "Try the Power"
GaAs MMIC Design Incentive Program

Click to visit the Applied Wave Research website Offer Provides Limited-Time Free Access to AWR's Microwave Office(R)
Design Suite and UMS PPH25X Design Kit

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. and PARIS, France — Oct. 27, 2008 —AWR and United Monolithic Semiconductors (UMS) today announced "Try the Power," an incentive program to allow new customers to bring gallium arsenide (GaAs) microwave monolithic integrated circuit (MMIC) design prototypes to market quickly and easily using AWR's Microwave Office electronic design automation (EDA) software and the UMS PPH25X foundry process design kit (PDK).

Try the Power includes free PDKs, a free 90-day lease for AWR's flagship Microwave Office high-frequency design software, and a reduced-rate prototype development quick-turn (PDQ) shared-wafer foundry run using the advanced UMS PPH25X process. The program begins November 15, 2008 and runs through May 31, 2009 (chips delivered).

UMS has developed and qualified the PPH25X pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor (pHEMT) process for high-frequency and high-power designs. It features a very high breakdown voltage that provides high power density up to 1 W per millimeter of gate periphery. Optimized small via-hole definitions through the 70-µm substrate thickness can be directly connected to the sources of the transistors, reducing parasitics and simplifying wideband amplifier designs. The PPH25X process has a 45 GHz Ft that makes it especially useful for power design at very high frequencies. The PPH25X process is fully qualified and open in foundry mode.Pricing and AvailabilityThis limited time offer is available for start-up firms and new customers of UMS and AWR. Contact either of your UMS or AWR sales office for more information about timing, qualification, and program guidelines.About Microwave Office SoftwareThe Microwave Office design suite is the industry's fastest growing RF and microwave design platform that integrates the most powerful, innovative tools available to allow users to create designs in the shortest time with the greatest flexibility. From design capture and synthesis to simulation, optimization, layout, extraction, and verification, the Microwave Office design environment delivers the highest levels of accuracy and speed, along with the unique ability to seamlessly integrate third-party tools. AWR recently introduced Version 2008 of the Microwave Office design suite, which incorporates more than 100 enhancements including sweeping changes to the user interface that dramatically increase its flexibility for the user.About AWRAWR is the innovation leader in high-frequency EDA software that dramatically reduces development time and cost for products employed in wireless, high-speed wired broadband, aerospace and defense, and electro-optical applications. The company's core technology is unique among high-frequency EDA platforms in that it is inherently open and flexible. AWR continually strengthens its product portfolio with innovative new technologies that enable faster, more streamlined product development, the most recent of which are the ACE™, RFA™, and AXIEM™ tools. The privately-held company is headquartered at 1960 East Grand Avenue, Suite 430, El Segundo, Calif. 90245. For more information about AWR and its products, please visit www.awrcorp.com.About UMS

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
