Infographics are a relatively new medium
for presenting a large amount of information in a single graphic using a combination
of illustrations and text with numerical data. The format is typically a high aspect
vertical ratio banner, which creates a strong visual attraction that suggests a
chronological progression.
Ohio University's
Master of Science in Electrical Engineering program has created this infographic
with the theme "Electrical Engineering Inventions Connect People and Communities."
Theirs is not a time progression of inventions, but more of a snapshot of today's
wireless, wearable, gaming, and other personal devices.
Per Jordan Opel, who alerted me to the infographic, "I want to bring to light
some life changing advances and inventions brought about by electrical engineering.
People all over the world are beginning to connect and interact in ways that were
previously thought impossible. 82% of wearable technology users in the U.S. say
that their devices have enhanced their lives. Some of these technological innovations
include wearable computing, eye-tracking technology, immersive technology, and virtual
reality. Not only have these developments in technology helped to enrich the lives
of the general public, but especially of those with disabilities like paralysis,
autism, muscular dystrophy and ALS, who can now communicate in ways that they would
otherwise not be able to. "
