1620: The Mayflower departed from Plymouth, England and arrived at Provincetown, MA, on November 2nd and then at Plymouth, MA, on December 26th, with 102 passengers onboard. 1736: Gabriel Fahrenheit, inventor of the temperature scale bearing his name, died. 1877: Jacob Schick, inventor of the electric razor, was born. 1908: General Motors was founded by William Crapo "Billy" Durant. 1914: The Canadian Aviation Corps was formed. 1919: The American Legion was created. 1919: Marvin Middlemark, inventor of the  television "rabbit ears" antenna, was born. 1940: U.S. President Roosevelt signed into law the Selective Training and Service Act, which set up the first peacetime military draft in U.S. history. 1963: "Outer Limits" premiered on ABC. 1996: The Telecommunications Act of 1996 was passed to allow competition for local phone service.
