Water for the Naive?

Americans spend more than $7B per year on bottled water, ranging from 75¢ to $6 per gallon. That's between 120 and 7,500 times the cost of tap water. The Natural Resources Defense Council surveyed 103 brands and found at least 1/4 were just bottled tap water. 1/5 contained synthetic organic chemicals. Amazingly, bottled water is subject to much lower purity standards than bottled; e.g., bottled water is tested once per week for chloroform, whereas municipal systems are tested 100 times per month (typ). In many double-blind tests, >75% of subjects preferred the taste of tap water over bottled. A recent news story reported 2-yr old bottled water in storehouses in France shipping worldwide. "Evian" spelled backwards is "Naive" - a coincidence?
