Dr. Flury, of the ESA, has created this animation showing the accumulation of functional satellites and space debris over the 1957 (Sputnik 1) to 2000 time period. Stats on the breakdown of types of debris are on the website. E-mail collision warnings are issued daily. 7-15-2008
Watch a new 3G iPhone get pulverized into dust in Blendtec's latest "Will It Blend?" video series. This is an ingenious marketing scheme by Blendtec, where the begoggled scientist, in a laboratory environment, determines whether various high-tech devices will "blend." 7-22-2008
Compliments of Professor Poliakof at the University of Nottingham, The Periodic Table of Videos is a complete set of short videos for 118 elements. "In the space of a few hours I lectured to more people than I had in my entire life." It's like a Monty Python version of the Periodic Table. 7-29-2008
This is event of a lifetime for some in our trade. The world's top circuit assemblers descend upon New York City to demonstrate their agility, speed, and prowess in the Olympics of their trade: The NYC Soldering Championships. Frank Duncan, aka "Spec," emerges as the new king of the soldering iron. The video did not mention whether steroid tests were given, or if lead-free solder was mandated. 8-5-2008
"The Great Global Warming Swindle," produced by Britain's WAGtv. The documentary is broken into 9 parts. This is the part of the story not publicized by the $£€Billion industry that thrives on it. Watch it... if you dare. 6-17-2008
While not quite as high on the innovation scale as Scotty's transparent aluminum, this "metal rubber" is pretty close. It can be heated, frozen, washed or doused with jet fuel, and still retain its electricity-conducting properties. 6-24-2008
This is the world's first full-sized Babbage Difference Engine #2; Babbage completed the plans in 1849, but never built the machine. Composed of 8,000 parts made from five-ton bronze, steel and cast iron, this magnificent 5-ton machine calculates results to 31 significant digits. A manually cranked handle powers the gears, cogs, cams, and wheels. 7-1-2008
Need a vacation to calm the nerves? Well, traveling the El Caminito del Rey ("The King's Walkway") probably is not for you. The now dilapidated walkway was built in 1901-1905 along the steep walls of a narrow gorge in El Chorro, Spain. Maybe it is just what you need, though, make obstacles at work seem insignificant. I'll bet Bob Pease has walked this trail, and he is in his 60s. 7-8-2008
Japan's Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has finally released the video of astronaut Takao Doi's famous boomerang toss in space. Q: Will it work outside the ISS?

In the name of experimental physics, 1500 Belgian students simultaneously inserted Mentos into Diet Coke bottles in Ladeuzeplein Square. They broke a record set just half a year earlier.

This demo video of the Airborne Laser (ABL) is phenomenal. A high-energy, 1.315 micron wavelength laser designed and built by Northrop Grumman, is installed in a Boeing 747-400F. The test phase will culminate in an airborne intercept test against a ballistic missile in 2009. 5-30-2008
Jeff J., an engineer at The Daily Buzz, saw my current Cool Pic on the wind turbine blade and sent this video. Is shows why replacement blades are sometimes needed. Here is the story behind it. Supposedly a brake failure caused the event. Anyone care to translate from the website? 6-10-2008
