Maurice Johnston - Homeless Professor

Maurice Johnson, Homeless Professor - RF Cafe Video for Engineers"55 year old Maurice Johnston lives in Boston, by way of Cleveland. He has a Masters Degree in Plasma Physics from Dartmouth College, and a masters in Electrical Engineering and acoustics from Purdue University. He's worked over 10 years at Lockheed Aerospace & Aerodyne Research Corp. Maurice has taught in Science and physics, and took care of both his parents in their time of need." Maurice has also been out of work for many months and is currently living on the streets of Boston. He moved there on the promise of a job which, upon arrival, he discovered it had been given to someone else. Despite having had a huge amount of media coverage - including Time, and many other online publications (including, now, RFCafe.com) - there is no indication that Maurice is employed yet.

Maurice is suffering from the same horrible economy that is similarly affecting many people. He is an extremely likeable person judging from the interview, so why, after all this coverage, is the good man still on the streets? When asked why he is having such a hard time finding work, the reply is that is it a combination of the economy, being over-qualified, and his being 55 years old - all three certainly undeniable causes for not being able to find work. Unfortunately he also has to play the race card and blame it partially on his color (although he does not dwell on it). Maybe, but when you consider the mandates for "diversity" in colleges, government agencies, companies that contract with government agencies, and just about everything else, my suspicions are aroused a bit. Why hasn't a Black business owner stepped in and hired Maurice? Where is Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton? There might be something under the radar that we're not being told.

Watch the entire video, if you have time. Mr. Johnson tells the story of an honorable effort to care for his elderly parents at the expense of sacrificing career options. What he says is very true that it is hard to get going again if you have no money to begin with. He tells about a couple schools offering insultingly low pay for teaching positions. Anyone who has ever taught a night class knows how true that is.

I spent a little time searching to try to reconcile whether Maurice holds a Ph.D. or a Master's degree in physics from Dartmouth College. His LinkedIn page does not indicate that he is "Dr. Johnson." The reporter in the video ascribes the Ph.D. to him, and it is not specifically denied; rather, Mr. Johnson sort of mumbles past it and says he has a Master's degree in physics and a Master's in electrical engineering from Purdue University.

A lot of influential engineering managers and college professors read these RF Cafe articles. If you can use the skills of a man like Maurice, please contact him to see if your company or school can benefit from his skills. Then, please report back to tell us all whether or not you hired him (hopefully). In the process, don't make any decisions for or against him because of his skin color; do it entirely on his qualification to do the job. Diversity, Social Justice, and government mandated preferential treatment is partially responsible for killing America's lead in the world; let us do nothing to more expedite our own demise - elected (and unelected, aka czars) officials are seeing to that.

mjnomad@yahoo.com is the e-mail he recommends for contacting him. Not sure I'd be using an address with "nomad" in it to solicit employment, but hey, what do I know?

Maurice Johnson - Homeless Professor

Note on racism: The White guy who made the video made this comment in his written statement, "Maurice is very well spoken, (he sounds like Obama) and is very kind..." So why the reference to Obama rather than, say, Winston Churchill? Many White people, in an effort to prove they're not racist (while implying others are) often end up making racist remarks because their egos blind them to their own discrimination. It's akin to VP Biden saying of Obama, "I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy." In fact, Obama can't speak coherently without a teleprompter, and then he always sounds preachy, condescending, or downright mean, so why compare Mr. Johnson to him? Maurice has a comforting, fatherly voice that makes him an affable fellow. Who would you rather work alongside?
