Using HP 4193A vector meter - RF Cafe Forums

Because of the high maintenance needed to monitor and filter spammers from the RF Cafe Forums, I decided that it would be best to just archive the pages to make all the good information posted in the past available for review. It is unfortunate that the scumbags of the world ruin an otherwise useful venue for people wanting to exchanged useful ideas and views. Hi all,

New here. What does it mean if phase angle > 90 degree when calibrating the probe on the vector meter by connecting the probe to ground? The R component becomes negative! And at lowest possible frequency 400 kHz, the phase angle is not stable, jumping from -88 to + 100. Why?

The rapid variation in phase could be because your "ground" is not really ground. There could be all sorts of RF pick-up, including the supply freq. and harmonics of it and all manner of other crap noise.
