Spectrum Analysis: Averaging or Max Holding - RF Cafe Forums
Because of the high maintenance needed to monitor and filter spammers from the RF Cafe Forums, I decided that it would be best to just archive the pages to make all the good information posted in the past available for review. It is unfortunate that the scumbags of the world ruin an otherwise useful venue for people wanting to exchanged useful ideas and views. Greetings all,

I have a question regarding parametric spectrum analysis.

When we measure parameters like 90% occupied Bandwidth, system noise floor, random spurious signals and phase noise, should we use video averaging or max hold on the spectrum analyzer? How about other linearity parameters like harmonics and IP3?

What are the criteria and conditions we must consider when choosing averaging or max holding?
