CW measurements - RF Cafe Forums

RF Cafe Forums closed its virtual doors in late 2012 mainly due to other social media platforms dominating public commenting venues. RF Cafe Forums began sometime around August of 2003 and was quite well-attended for many years. By 2012, Facebook and Twitter were overwhelmingly dominating online personal interaction, and RF Cafe Forums activity dropped off precipitously. Regardless, there are still lots of great posts in the archive that ware worth looking at. Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts. Dear Friends,

I'm in a big problem, I must perform a CW "continues wave' drive test for UMTS model tuning project for 40 sites and I must start in two days.

I know how to perform 2G (GSM) drive test but the CW drive test is a new for me.

So, please please could you describe the drive test process for the CW in steps, I will use W-CDMA Area Tester for this drive test.

Please, it's not only important but it's a very urgent.

I'm sure you could help me.

Waiting your reply ASAP.

It sounds to me like you need to radiate an unmodulated carrier from each BTS, and with a spectrum or transmission analyzer and GPS linked to a laptop, drive out radially recording the CW carrier level. Suitable software then translates the data into a map overlay to produce carrier level contours for each BTS.

I guess this has to be done for each carrier, but the test spec should state this.
