Greetings:

I've always been dubious of manufacturers' claims of multi-megapixel cameras on phones and cams that cost only a couple hundred dollars, when condisering that high-end cameras of less pixel numers cost x10 as much. This brief article in the May 2012 edition of IEEE's Spectrum magazine does a nice job of summarizing the differences.
