Yet Another Call from a Recruiter... - RF Cafe Forums

Because of the high maintenance needed to monitor and filter spammers from the RF Cafe Forums, I decided that it would be best to just archive the pages to make all the good information posted in the past available for review. It is unfortunate that the scumbags of the world ruin an otherwise useful venue for people wanting to exchanged useful ideas and views. It seems that the more formal social media like Facebook pretty much dominate this kind of venue anymore anyway, so if you would like to post something on RF Cafe's Facebook page, please do.

Below are all of the forum threads, including all the responses to the original posts.

Greetings:

Recently, I have been getting a lot of contacts by recruiters who ignore my statement that says only companies actually hiring engineers, managers and technicians are welcome to publicize their available positions. They all claim to be the exception to the general recruiter reputation stigma and attempt to convince me that they should be allowed to post. Of course, the fact that they contact me after I give a clear reason for why not to contact me is an indication of the nature of the beast.

The analogy would be a salesman who sees a "No Solicitors" sign on the door, and then walks in to explain to the proprietor why he (or she) is a different kind of solicitor than the one implied on the sign.

Just this morning, a recruiter sent me an e-mail requesting such an exception. I wrote back reiterating my clear comments on the website. She then proceeded to call me to help me understand how wrong I was. This phone call went on for probably 15 minutes, and she would not give up. I finally told her she was just wasting my time, so she came up with the playground retort of, "well you're just wasting my time." Who called whom after being told not to bother?

That is all the evidence I need to confirm my reason for not inviting recruiters onto RF Cafe. They treat engineers, managers, and technicians the same way.

To paraphrase Yosemite Sam, "I hates headhunters."

Won't be long before there's a headhunter czar and they'll nationalize recruiting.

Recruiters have the same reputations as lawyers. There are some good ones out there, but most of them give the good ones a bad name. Actually, lawyers are worse. What is the saying? Engineers produce and lawyers take away!

Agreed. I personally know one very reputable recruiter. He despises the toadies out there that tarnish the few good guys. Unfortunately, it is safer to assume from the start that headhunters are going to exploit you by sharing personal information and not vetting potential employers sufficiently. I know this kind of generalization torques off recruiters, but my allegiance is to engineers, technicians, and hiring managers who visit RF Cafe. I personally would prefer to see companies do all their own hiring.
