How good are HR people at finding engineers? - RF Cafe Forums
Because of the high maintenance needed to monitor and filter spammers from the RF Cafe Forums, I decided that it would be best to just archive the pages to make all the good information posted in the past available for review. It is unfortunate that the scumbags of the world ruin an otherwise useful venue for people wanting to exchanged useful ideas and views. It seems that the more formal social media like Facebook pretty much dominate this kind of venue anymore anyway, so if you would like to post something on RF Cafe's Facebook page, please do.

My question is how good are your company HR departments at finding engineers? The place where I work (Midwest defense company that shall go unnamed) seems to do a fair job. There can be a problem with guys hired through a reference from guys that work here already, because they can just be doing each other a favor (one gets a new job, the other a referral bonus). Overall, though I'd say referrals from people already working here are best because we're all looking to make our jobs easier.

HR people were never good at finding engineers and never will be The task of finding the professionaly qualified people is in the hand of the Engineering Managers and the technical people who interview the applicants. HR people are only good at detecting personality problems
(if any) that the applicant might have. They are also good at collecting references etc. Yet in many companies, HR Managers have a high rank in the company and often they make wrong decisions about whom to hire and whom not, based on considerations that don't always follow with the company's best interest!
