RF power calculations - RF Cafe Forums
Because of the high maintenance needed to monitor and filter spammers from the RF Cafe Forums, I decided that it would be best to just archive the pages to make all the good information posted in the past available for review. It is unfortunate that the scumbags of the world ruin an otherwise useful venue for people wanting to exchanged useful ideas and views. It seems that the more formal social media like Facebook pretty much dominate this kind of venue anymore anyway, so if you would like to post something on RF Cafe's Facebook page, please do.

Hello Everyone, can anyone point me in the right direcction on how I can calculate the maximum power a filter network can manage with certain SMT components? thank you.

Most circuit simulators allow you to measure power dissipation in each component - even reactive components when you have s-parameter files or enter a Q value. Once you have the output measurements set up, crank up input power until the max power dissipation is reached in any component.

For capacitors, also monitor the voltage drop across it to not excede the working voltage and for inductors, do not excede the max current. No one said it would be easy. :-D

Keep in mind that the power dissipation will be denendent on the VSWR at each port.
