Power capability of Lange Couplers - RF Cafe Forums

Because of the high maintenance needed to monitor and filter spammers from the RF Cafe Forums, I decided that it would be best to just archive the pages to make all the good information posted in the past available for review. It is unfortunate that the scumbags of the world ruin an otherwise useful venue for people wanting to exchanged useful ideas and views. It seems that the more formal social media like Facebook pretty much dominate this kind of venue anymore anyway, so if you would like to post something on RF Cafe's Facebook page, please do.

This is a topic I need clarification on before I can go further with my design. I'm sure there are many variables and trade-offs to consider, so any solution with these in mind would be appreciated. For instance, obviously, wider traces increase the power handling of a microstrip; however, the substrate height would increase and this should have an effect on the bandwidth capability of the coupler (true?)

Also, how is the power distributed in a coupler of this type anyways? I can't assume the full power will be on a single microstrip at one time, since this isn't the characteristics of a coupler. In other words, how does the power get distributed in the different microstrip regions of the coupler?

Furthermore, what about power capabilities with full reflection from the load? Once again, I don't believe the voltage would sum in-phase before being delivered to the isolated port, but maybe I'm wrong.
