Microwave-transparent plastic - RF Cafe Forums
Because of the high maintenance needed to monitor and filter spammers from the RF Cafe Forums, I decided that it would be best to just archive the pages to make all the good information posted in the past available for review. It is unfortunate that the scumbags of the world ruin an otherwise useful venue for people wanting to exchanged useful ideas and views. It seems that the more formal social media like Facebook pretty much dominate this kind of venue anymore anyway, so if you would like to post something on RF Cafe's Facebook page, please do.

What properties in a given plastic material indicate microwave transparency? Is it just dielectric constant and dissipation factor? Can anyone recommend a good microwave transparent plastic that is readily available other than UHMPE?

Dielectric constant is a primary selection factor indicating loss or attenuation. Then again consider what is the materials function (what is it used for), rigidity, flexibility, weatherability, UV suceptibility (change properties from exposure), toxicity, thermal characteristics, material cost and manufacturability.
Just a few of the considerations to revue. Make a list of the plastics that are candidates, check the properties of each against your requirements. Make necessary tradeoffs and make your selection.
