CW-Tone Generator - RF Cafe Forums
Because of the high maintenance needed to monitor and filter spammers from the RF Cafe Forums, I decided that it would be best to just archive the pages to make all the good information posted in the past available for review. It is unfortunate that the scumbags of the world ruin an otherwise useful venue for people wanting to exchanged useful ideas and views. It seems that the more formal social media like Facebook pretty much dominate this kind of venue anymore anyway, so if you would like to post something on RF Cafe's Facebook page, please do.

Looking for a cheap reliable solution to generate a clean CW tone with acceptable phase noise

I am looking for a cost effective way to generate a CW tone that doesn't cost an arm or a leg. Programmable PLL via Serial? USB control? Any idea?

Just don't want to end up using a signal generator for 2 fixed frequencies.

Are you looking for a single tone or 2 tone CW? You could get a connectorized oscillator for a single tone. Wenzel might be a good place to start.. http://www.wenzel.com/

Hi!

How clean is "clean"? What is "acceptable phase noise"?

For that matter, what frequency range are you looking at?

How far apart are the two frequencies?

Companies like Analog Devices often have evaluation boards for their RF products, like PLL chips and DDS chips.
