I guess if you are real good with
Maxwell's equations you could calculate discone
pattern and input impedance by hand. But, the easiest
way these days is to use one one of the many Method
of Moment or Finite Difference software packages.
A discone is fairly easy to input to most available
software. I prefer a Navy Electronic Code (NEC)
MOM based package such as GNEC or WIPL-D, but that's
just one of dozens out there. I hope that helps.
