bent wire antenna - RF Cafe Forums
Because of the high maintenance needed to monitor and filter spammers from the RF Cafe Forums, I decided that it would be best to just archive the pages to make all the good information posted in the past available for review. Hi,

I am pretty new to antenna analysis. I'm trying to figure out what the radiation pattern of a dipole bent in half 90 degrees (in the shape of an L) looks like. Can I calculate the pattern mathematically or should I just use simulation software?
Also, how would I calculate the input impedance of such an antenna?

Use of an EM simulator appears to be in order to get a meaningful field pattern and input impedance. My cheap FM stereo antenna works great when I bend it in the middle (approximately) to get the best pickup in my somewhat rural location.

A couple free EM programs are available on the "Antenna, Electromagnetics & Transmission Line Simulators" area on the software page.
