VHF Antennas - RF Cafe Forums

RF Cafe Forums closed its virtual doors in late 2012 mainly due to other social media platforms dominating public commenting venues. RF Cafe Forums began sometime around August of 2003 and was quite well-attended for many years. By 2012, Facebook and Twitter were overwhelmingly dominating online personal interaction, and RF Cafe Forums activity dropped off precipitously. Regardless, there are still lots of great posts in the archive that ware worth looking at. Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts. I am looking information on an antenna, I dont know if I am in the right place, i was wondering if someone could help me out. I am looking for an antenna to receive around 50 Mhz, It has to have high sensitivity and high receiver gain. Can you recommend the best types. It has to be as small as possible.

Hi,

This could be tricky! High gain antennas at VHF, and in your case 50 MHz, become very large indeed. Say, for example, you just wanted a gain of 10 dB, well at 50 MHz this would require an antenna with an effective area (Ae) of 28.65 m^2.

With more details of what you require I'm sure we could find a suitable alyernative.
