Each week, I select a new book that is relevant to engineers, scientists, students, hobbyists or managers. Most of the time they are sold through Amazon (I earn a few pennies on each sale), but when possible, I present books that are available in an e-book format that can be downloaded for free. The latter are much less available. After all, most people like to be paid for their work, as I'm certain that you do, too.
Note: I just began archiving these picks in May of 2009, but they have been going on since about 2003.
"Make Your Own Tube Testers and Electron Tube Equipment,"
by Gary Steinbaugh, PE, AF8L, shows audio connoisseurs and amateur radio enthusiasts how to
construct and use their own vacuum tube testers. In addition, it describes how to make electron tube
equipment, how to design high voltage supplies, how to work with metal, plastic, and glass, and
more. The reader can make a shiny new tube tester that produces laboratory-quality results for a
fraction of the price of a worn-out vintage tube tester.
Here are a couple oldies but goodies. Sage advice is timeless,
it is said, and the fact that these two books are still top sellers speaks truth to the adage.
How to Win Friends and Influence People is an oft-cited book
(usually by people that have never read it) written by tycoon Dale
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen R. Covey is the other book
you might consider reading. I must confess that they really haven't helped me too much, but that's a
